(this event is over for 2018)
Hi, it’s Jim with a quick guest post. I want to make sure everyone comes to the Civil War Days in Virginia City. The 2019 dates are August 31 through September 2, over Labor Day weekend.
Be sure to ride one of the best local events of the year — the Battle Trains operated by the V&T Railroad!
It’s such a great experience, you’ll ride a special train with a flatcar attached (seen at far right in the photo above). The Civil War re-enactors ride the flatcar with their cannons. The train takes them to Gold Hill to fight the other side, who attacks the train from the fill area where the Crown Point Trestle used to be. You can be on this train!
Keep in mind the re-enactment uses real explosives. Use your judgement regarding young children and loud noises, the re-enactment is run by a licensed explosives expert!
There is a page about the Crown Point Trestle on the excellent V&T history site, virginiaandtruckee.com. Locally produced aroundcarson.com has a good article from 2009. At that time, the V&T reconstruction project was working to rebuild the line below Gold Hill to American Flat.
If you can’t make it to ride the V&T for Labor Day, be sure to check out our upcoming theme trains, the Pumpkin Patch Trains, the Candy Cane Express Trains and Day out with Thomas™.
