First new video of 2017: Preseason V&T School Tour with Ed Gallegos and D-3 Diesel
On April 26, I rode along with Engineer Ed Gallegos on the V&T Railroad’s D-3 diesel locomotive.
The Virginia & Truckee Railroad doesn’t start it’s regular season until May 27 but there are often school groups doing pre-season tours. Today a school group from Las Vegas came up for a ride, with the D-3 diesel pulling the Carson City coach. We get a look at the scenery between Virginia City and the shoofly around the collapsed tunnel 3.
Ed behaved himself today, unlike some of the videos from the Ed Gallegos playlist, I never had to censor him, so this railfan video is kid-safe.
We start out in the V&T yard in the morning, warming up the D-3 diesel and coupling to the Carson City coach. Leaving the yard, Ed takes the train up to the depot where the schoolkids will load up. We run down to the area where the pumpkin patch will be later this year, near the shoofly that bypasses Tunnel 3 that collapsed in 1938.
You’ll get a good idea of what the run between Virginia City and Gold Hill looks like, though we don’t get far enough to see the Gold Hill Hotel on this run.
