What is Day Out With Thomas™?
Day Out With Thomas™ is a family event that offers aspiring engineers and their families the unique opportunity to take a ride with the classic storybook engine along with fun filled activities for the entire family. Join us at the V&T in Virginia City for a 25-minute train ride behind Thomas™ with fun filled activities for the entire family. Activities include: Temporary Tattoos, Face Painting, Story Telling, Videos, Train Play Tables, Mini Golf, Coloring Caboose, meet and take photos with Sir Topham Hatt, and shop at the Thomas store.
Who is Thomas the Tank Engine and Percy?
Since Thomas the Tank Engine left the depot more than 65 years ago, this Really Useful Engine and his Island of Sodor friends have chugged their way into the hearts of preschoolers and grownups worldwide. Based on The Railway Series of classic stories authored by a father who loved trains and wanted a shared experience with his son, Thomas & Friends™ is a rite of passage that inspires the imagination while teaching the life lessons of friendship, exploration and cooperation.

The event takes place at the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in Virginia City, Nevada.
How do I get there?
How much are tickets?
Tickets are $19 per person. Children under 2 years ride FREE on parents lap.
How do I purchase tickets?
Tickets can be purchased online at ticketweb.com/dowt, or call 866-468-7630, or in person at the Virginia City Depot.
What time do trains depart?
Once an hour from 10:00am to 3:00pm each day of the event. More trains may be scheduled on the weekends.
How long is the train ride?
The train rides last over 25 minutes.
Is parking available on site?
There is a parking lot on site and along F street and the F Street events arena. (See Map).
Is there an additional cost for parking?
Will food be available?
Yes. There will be a snack car at the railroad and Virginia City has many places to eat.
Is the event handicap accessible?
Not all activities are accessible, but some are. Please call ahead for special needs. 775-847-0380.
Is there available lodging in the area?
Yes. (See Virginia City Lodging) as well as Reno, Carson City, and South Lake Tahoe.
Are cameras allowed?
Absolutely! Guests are encouraged to capture their Day Out With Thomas™ memories for their photo album.
